Released on 8th April 1991, Blue Lines marked the debut of English electronic music group Massive Attack, under Wild Bunch and Virgin Records. Led by Grantley “Daddy G” Marshall, Robert “3D” Del Naja, Adrian “Tricky” Thaws, and Andrew “Mushroom” Vowles, co-produced by Jonny Dollar, the album also featured vocals from Shara Nelson and Horace Andy. Widely recognized as the pioneering “trip hop” release, Blue Lines masterfully merged hip-hop elements (breakbeats, sampling, rapping) with dub, soul, reggae, and electronic music.

Renowned for its impact, the album secured various accolades: named the 21st greatest album in the “Music of the Millennium” poll (1997), ranked 9th in Q magazine’s “100 Greatest British Albums Ever” (2000), and listed in Rolling Stone’s “The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time” in 2003, 2012, and 2020. Additionally, Pitchfork placed it at number 85 in ‘The Top 100 Albums of the 1990s
