False Idols, released on 23 May 2013, marks the ninth studio album by the English trip-hop artist Tricky. This album signifies Tricky‘s debut on his label, False Idols, an imprint of !K7.
Featuring collaborations with Francesca Belmonte, Fifi Rong, Nneka, and Peter Silberman of The Antlers, the album includes notable tracks such as Nothing’s Changed, with vocals by Francesca Belmonte, released on 27 February 2013, and the music video for Does It, which premiered on 27 March 2013.
Tricky himself draws a parallel between False Idols and his debut album, Maxinquaye, asserting that False Idols is a superior album. He emphasizes that the creation of False Idols was a journey of self-discovery for him.
To promote the album, Tricky planned a ten-date US tour starting in Columbus, Ohio, on 8th June 2013. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen US visa issues, the tour had to be postponed until October. In 2014, False Idols received a double silver certification from the Independent Music Companies Association, denoting sales of at least 40,000 copies across Europe.
