Kraftwerk – Radio-Activity (Yellow)

£32.99

Radio-Activity (German: Radio-Aktivität) is Kraftwerk‘s fifth studio album, released in October 1975. As their first all-electronic album, it centres on themes of radioactive decay and radio communication. The bilingual album, featuring lyrics in English and German, includes a successful single release of the title track in France and Belgium.

After the success of the 1974 album Autobahn, inspired by Germany’s motorway network, Kraftwerk, featuring the classic lineup of Ralf Hütter, Florian Schneider, Karl Bartos, and Wolfgang Flür (joined in February 1975), toured the United States in April and May 1975.

The title of the Radio-Activity album showcases Kraftwerk‘s deadpan humor, playing on the dual themes of radioactivity and radio-related activities in its songs. Karl Bartos disclosed that the inspiration came from Billboard’s chart column titled Radio Activity, listing the most played singles. Wolfgang Flur noted that the concept emerged from numerous radio interviews Ralf and Florian conducted during their American tour.
